Model 4370 Pneumatic Control Valve (BZ/DI/WCB/316SS)

Standard Features & Options:

Model 4370 is the Australian made version of US manufactured Mk70, diaphragm operated Control Valve. The valve is metal/metal seated (Ansi class IV) and utilises the same sliding gate seats found in Jordan’s range of Pressure Regulators (4350/4360) and Temperature Control Valves (4380). It is available in sizes ½”→ 2” (Cv 2.5 to 30). The standard valve has threaded (bspt) ends but can be flanged on request. The valve is actioned by a multi-spring pneumatic actuator and can be used for on/off or modulating for liquids, gases, chemicals and steam. Flow is controlled by the movement of the gate/disc which moves in response to a 3-15 psi pneumatic signal received from a controller. Where the signal is in milliamps, an I/P transducer can be fitted (i.e. converts a 4-20mA signal to 3-15 psi) or, for even more precise control, the pneumatic actuator can be fitted with a pneumatic or I/P positioner.
Maximum inlet pressure- BZ (2100kpa) / DI (3,100kpa) / 316SS (4,500kpa)
Maximum temp- BZ/DI (260°C)/ 316SS (343°C)

Model 4380 Temperature Control Valve (BZ/DI/WCB/316SS)

Standard Features & Options:

Model 4380 is the Australian made version of US manufactured Mk80, self acting Temperature Control Valve. It requires no external power source or expensive instrumentation. The valve is metal/metal seated (Ansi class IV) and utilises the same sliding gate seats found in Jordan’s range of Pressure Regulators (4350/4360) and Diaphragm Operated Control Valves (4370). It is available in sizes ½”→ 2” (Cv 2.5 to 30) and is commonly used to accurately regulate the temperature of a tank’s contents (either by heating or cooling). The standard valve has threaded (bspt) ends but can be flanged on request.
The valve is actioned by a SWA thermal system, which is made up of a welded 304ss actuator, opposing spring, capillary and temperature sensing bulb. The bulb is normally installed inside a thermowell  (bulb pocket) and a heating transfer liquid, inside the thermowell, ensures accurate sensing of the process temperature. In the case of heating, the valve may be supplying steam into a heat exchanger and the bulb is positioned so that it senses the temperature on the heat exchanger’s outlet. The valve would remain open until the desirable temperature is reached and modulates to maintain this preset temperature.
Maximum inlet pressure- BZ (2100kpa) / DI (3,100kpa) / 316SS (4,500kpa)
Maximum valve temp- BZ/DI (260°C)/ 316SS (343°C)
Temperature set ranges: refer data sheet for ranges & spans (lowest range is -29°C→-7°C, highest is 193°C→232°C (range depends on the type of thermal fill)
Max pressure differential: 175-300 psi

Options: Stainless steel capillary, low temp shut off valve 4380U, Cv 50 High Flow 43801, low flow seats for all sizes, special allow seats, coated bulbs, set point indicators, flanges to AS or Ansi. Many more options, higher pressure/temps etc for US made Mk80 (see download)

Selection: RELIEF or SUSTAINING?

Standard Features & Options:

 Pressure Relief Valve (pictured left)

Is designed for relief of excess pressure, usually 10-15% above the system operating pressure. Its main purpose is to protect the pressure vessel, pump, pipes, valves and other equipment from damage by excess pressure. Once the set pressure is reached, the valve opens to evacuate the media and will reseat again once the pressure has been relieved. It is recommended that the valve is inspected after each blow-off to ensure correct re-seating and operation. In many designs, the discharge port is at right angles to the inlet and is often larger than the inlet size, thus assisting rapid discharge of the product.

If there is a need for frequent operation, this is not the correct valve to use and a back pressure valve (as pictured below) is the better selection.

Safety Valves used on compressible media (steam, air etc) often have a specially designed disc profile to assist in rapid valve lift and less overpressure. They usually have a lifting lever to manually lift the disc, thus confirming operation and to assist clearing debris or scale from the seat and disc.

Correct sizing is essential for proper operation.

mk50_181x157

Pressure Sustaining (or Back Pressure) Valve (Jordan Mk50 pictured above)

Can be used in several ways and is commonly used to maintain the upstream pressure in a ring main or piping system. In a typical installation, it is installed in a "tee" off the main line where it remains closed until the set pressure is reached. Although it opens at a predetermined setting like the relief valve, it does not necessarily discharge at full capacity. Rather, it only opens far enough to relieve the excess pressure and can modulate and operate 24 hours a day, if necessary. They are commonly found on boiler feedwater lines where they allow the pumps to keep pumping and bypassing back to the tank when the boiler is full. This saves wear & tear on the pump and guarantees that the boiler will not be starved on water when it needs to be replenished. Another application could be to guarantee the pressure in an essential service (eg eyewash, deluge shower or even regions in the case of urban water supply applications) by ensuring that other ancillary lines are only pressurised when there is ample excess pressure above the minimum required by the priority line.

Correct sizing is essential for proper operation.
